Hostgator

Hostgator

The Good: HostGator has an outstanding support structure that includes 24/7 Phone support, MSN, AOL, forums and video tutorials, a robust network infrastructure, four different shared hosting plans and a staff that take hosting business very seriously.

The Bad: HostGator basic plan is a bit pricey compared to other hosting companies also a few customers reported slow downloads issues on their sites.

The Bottom Line: HostGator is a major hosting provider with a big name on the market and probably has the best support around the world in terms of Web Hosting Business.

It's been a while since we were excited about any support quality from web hosting provider companies - Don't get us wrong, there is a lot of hosting companies with a solid infrastructure, but they've all been pretty bad while dealing with their live customers.

Today, we have Hostgator. It has been considered by most of its users a top support company in hosting provider business. We find that Hostgator deserves its title of top support around the world for a number of reasons. The company just introduced a new level of support for their customers that not only offers the benefits a 24/7 phone support and live chat but also integrates E-mail, forums, knowledgebase, video tutorials (Flash), AOL and 24/7 MSN customer support into the mix. But the best about Hostgator support is that queries are normally answered in minutes by ` Hostgator guys that takes their business very seriously.

We tested the Hostgator reliability across some of its hosted customers, and the service quality is outstanding. We had no problems with uptime and reliability, but a few customers reported problems with download speed on their hosted site. In addition, a very few of our friends reported some server problems on their end. But as we mentioned earlier, Hostgator support staff is always very proactive and normally solve these kind of problems very quickly when reported. By the way we were unable to find a Hostgator customer with downtime problems.

Hostgator's basic plan costs $0/mo, which is on the pricier side, but you do get a quality hosting provider that is on a par with other provider in this service level.

Hostgator uses CPanel control panel. It doesn't offer anything revolutionary in the features department (read: no ASP.net or Dedicated IP), but there are some slight enhancements. First, Hostgator has Fantastico! that is a script library. As you would expect, the feature automates the installation of web applications to your website, there are more than 50 scripts available for free. Hostgator ups the ante offering hosting level features, such as unlimited domains (unlimited sites) on any of his non basic plans, also Hostgator has: SSH Access, unlimited MySQL, SSL, etc.

I' with hostgator

Rating 10 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: excellent support; perfect for personal sites

Cons: none found so far.

I host a personal site (not a commercial) with hostgator. I decided to move there after a long research and I'm the kind of guy that prefer to pay some cents more and not get a huge bandwidth / disk space for $1.99 on an unknown host. I'm very happy with them and now I'm planning to move to a dedicated hosting plan there.

Perfect Hosting

Rating 10 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: support, CPanel and no downtime

Cons: not so cheap like others

I saw a lot of good reviews around there about Hostgator and I dediced to be carefull while beleaving on these good points regarding them as their TOS was very unreal for me at that time. But I decided to move to them and after a year I'm a totally happy customer. Previous I was with 1&1 and they screwed my life demanding me to pay bills that I'm not responsible for. Hostgator has a very good support, is not just a robot sending you templated messages, but every time is someone that really cares with you - but this is not cheap, Hostgator is a bit expensive. They uses CPanel (that I really love) and their uptime is perfect. If you demand a good hosting company

What is everyone talking about?

Rating 9 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: Fast, reliable, great support and a huge amount of options.

Cons: PHP upload size max

I think all of those review here about Host Gator being bad are fake. Seriously, I have had many advanced problems, like using private name servers, MySQL import problems, memory allocations problems and more, and Host Gator always responds back with a solution or what I need to do within an hour or two at the most. The only complaint I have is the PHP upload size max they impose, but it is understandable. So at least give Host Gator a chance!

semi-dedicated

Rating 8 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: stable and roboust

Cons: is not so cheap

I have HostGator' semi-dedicated plan running about 25 websites there. Most of the sites I host there are news forums and HostGator is perfect for that. I already had some problems like any other host but they are very good in what they do.

very stable

Rating 7 out of 10

Recommends: Yes

Pros: stable

Cons: support do not answer all questions

I monitor my sites and is wonderful to see that my site went down only 2 times on an entire year!!! Support still needs some improvement as they do not answer all of your questions (they reply all emails but do not answer all your questions). - but the chat support is pretty good. So far I recommend hostgator.

Not so good

Rating 5 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: 24hr toll free support

Cons: too many downtimes

I have a vBulletin forum and have hosted with Hostgator for the last 6 months. But recently my site went down 5 times in 60 days of approximately 45 minutes each. Every time I reached support they told me that it was a DNS issue (not their responsibility) or it was a problem that would not persist - very disappointing. Now after meeting with IX webhosting guys, I decided to move to them and they have absolutely no downtimes with IX web (I have my own monitoring system that runs every minute to check it). Go to hostgator only if you think that reliability is not important.

No support

Rating 4 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: no downtimes

Cons: support lacks and hard time during setup

I decided to quit my old hosting and join Hostgator and so I just had problems. I had so many problems during setup that I lost a entire month working to make my site work there. They have a good support? NO They have a really working instant message report as they claim? NO They have a really working phone support? NO These that provide the support above are just dummies. My last problem is that my email system is completely unreliable: people send email to me and the email do not reaches my inbox. Now every time that I contact support, they just tell me that my email is working properly... at least for them.

I hate...

Rating 4 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: -

Cons: -

I hate when my hosting company (i.e. Hostgator) decided to do obscure upgrades/hosting and my php scripts stop working. I have a 20000 Unique visitors a day site and I don't know what they changed here that my site are now completely broke. And their support really sucks. They do not move a finger to help you - they take very long to reply and you always get an automated response.

They change your mod rewrite with out notice

Rating 3 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: large bandwidth and disk quota

Cons: their support sucks and your site will be completely unstable their.

I'm hosting a compare shopping price site and I only have problems with hostgator: My site always goes down (errors) and take hours to go back. Last times it went down the support used to reply me telling that I changed mod rewrite and it was pointing to a non existent page. But I never changed my .htaccess . how is that possible? They tell that their support are great but they take hours and days to reply to solve problems about your site that are completely unstable - they are completely bogus provider.

Rating 2 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: -

I recently moved from Voxextreme to hostgator due I had downtimes problem, not I understood what someone told me: They are both terrible. Hostgator has a nice support and interface but what this will help you if you have too much downtimes. You get nothing.

hostgator is a 12 years child running a reseller program

Rating 1 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: what?

Cons: My site are out for days!!!!

I've saw some nice reviews about Hostgator, they also have a beauty and nice designed front page - so I decided to move there using an 1c (cent) coupon code. The setup? It took about 2 weeks and customer support looks great and are very kind with you all the time but it Sucks!!! They never helped me. Recently I had a small problem with my PHP site and they decided to move my entire site to a completely new server. The result: My site went down due to this new site has a completely different webserver and PHP versions. I asked they to move back to the previous site and so they told me that they would charge me for that (not for moving the site back, but for installing scripts ) - now my site is down and they do not help me!!! stay alway from hostgator or you will find out that all these positives reviews around there are fake like them!!!

Perfect no Sense

Rating 1 out of 10

Recommends: No

Pros: they at least reply you

Cons: support looks a drunk guy in front of a computer

My site went down again and after hours waiting for the support guys to decide to answer me - I found the reason: "NO SERVER DISK SPACE" I figured out this after being able to read their php.log using my own method (they do not provide you the php.log as it is shared) - fired an email and the support guy told me that the error was on my end (was my computer the responsible for my site being down for 3 days??) and after I replied the ticked the some guy looks that don't know what we were chatting about. This is what happening when you put the best guys on pre-sales and leave the stupids to provide support.
