Dotster - Editor Review
The Good: Good price benefit and good domain administration interface. The Bad: No toll-Free phone support (but has telephone support), high downtime level and unfriendly customer support. The Bottom Line: Dotster has a big cost price benefit, but fails on customer support thing.

When you are shopping for a hosting package, it's easy to be caught
up in the huge space and bandwidth plans available. But for most of the webmasters,
those plans, high-priced packages are completely overkill. If you're looking for a
hosting plan to just host a medium website, without hosting high
highest-end features and just manage your website Dotster which costs
$5.25/mo, may gives you what you need with no pricey extras. Of course a
low price like this isn't without sacrifices -- His budget minded hosting
features, such as without extreme domain hosting features like domain
privacy, etc. This kind of feature lack is tough to other Dotster hosting
plans as you can get other similar plans with more space and bandwidth
for a few dollars more. But if you're watching every penny and just want
a hosting plan for basic website hosting, Dotster basic plan will meet
your site needs.
When it comes to uptime and reliability, it limits Dotster to the
basics: Dotster has no system status page. We appreciate Dotster price and
basic hosting features; we don't appreciate the fail to commit
the 99.99% network uptime guarantee for most of his users and the fail
of support staff to deal with such problems with its users.
Dotster features its hosting plan management with the industry-standard
Plesk Control Panel. Along with features, any of Dotster hosting plans
comes with MySQL or MSSQL Database, Anti-SPAM Filter, PHP and Email
Anti-virus. Windows Plans Features also Front Page Plug-Ins and ASP as
part of the bundle.
Dotster has telephone support that is not toll-free and runs Monday through
Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST. Good luck, also a few customers reported unfriendly direct customer support. However, their
customer service people are helpful what includes an extensive
FAQ/Knowledge Base on Dotster support Web site where we were able to find
answers for most of our queries.

Very good for hosting your domain
Rating 8 out of 10
Recommends: Yes
Pros: Nice Web Interface and great support
Cons: have my concerns about registrar security
I host my domains with Dotster a long ago, they have a very nice interface and free "registrar Lock" - also their support are very good not only for solving troubles but also while dealing in situations that you want to learn more. My only concern is that recently I've forget my password and contacted them regarding it. They told me that they could reset my password if I follow an easy procedure that includes sending a fax to them. I followed the procedure and got things working again. My concern is that (I don't know how things are now) but the procedure of reseting a password could be done by anyone! I could get my domain stolen by someone and don't know if I could get it again (ok at least my site would be off line for a few days until I figure out what would be happening) but I want to make it clear that this issue never happened with me or any other related -so I'm not sure it it is really a problem. Therefore Dotster is great and I do recommend them.

They are great
Rating 8 out of 10
Recommends: Yes
Pros: has a good support and got no downtime yet
Cons: I don't like their domain
I host my site with dotster and they are great. I would only recommend to register your domain with Godaddy as Dotster is so expensive as godaddy, but this last one is better for domains - but don't host your site on go daddy, use dotster instead.

timeouts
Rating 5 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Ample Bandwidth and disk space
Cons: Site down very freqüently
Initially I had a very nice experience with Dotster webhosting, The server rarely was slow or down. But recently things began to change: A lot of times I get a 503 Error while trying to visit my own site - also I get timeout while visiting it.
I tried to contact support but no luck: The guy in the other site told me to try cleaning my cookies or something like that (He told me that my site was ok, and the problem was in my end...)

No Customer Service
Rating 4 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: nice registrar system
Cons: no support.
I decided to host using Dotster after using their Registration Service for years. It was a bad idea: Support took 1 week to solve a problem that I could not access my Control Panel page.
So after this I had some doubts about their system and could not get any response from them.

Great Prices - Worse than bad support
Rating 2 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: Good prices
Cons: If you should ever have a question - don't bother asking
I get better support answers from crazy homeless people than I get from Dotster. As long as every goes along smoothly, they have been fine. But I have had three different questions/problems with them and each time it took me hours/days to try and get them resolved. Their support system seems to focused on wearing you down so wou will just stop asking.
They never solved any of my issues but they did suceed in wasting hours of my time going back and forth with them. They make the cable company seem nice and helpful in comparison.
For every dollar I saved hosting with them and would gladly give back and take back all the frustration and wasted time. Go with Hurricane Electric, good prices and they have solved every issue I have every raised and usually within 2 hours, even in the wee hours.

Run Forest, Run!
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: none
Cons: everything (read my review)
If you host or are considering hosting your site on dotster, you should run away from them.
This is why:
No support response on some queries and take about 48 to answer when they decide to do; They send you a lot of spam; Frequent downtimes and are very slow; No toll free number; Their support staff are stupids and don't know what are doing every time; They have problem even with domain registration system and your site will be in risk.

beware of dotster
Rating 1 out of 10
Recommends: No
Pros: seemingly generous hosting plan
Cons: technical problems, non-existent support, money down the drain
Since i signed up and paid for hosting with dotster - i'm experiencing nothing but annoyance and despair. I'm having problems logging into my account, no reply to tickets, no one to talk to really. I really don't get how a big and seemingly serious company such as dotster can act like an idiotic bully. They, like so many in this field, bring shame to the hosting business. Business-wise it's strange to me, since they could just as easily do good and thrive. I guess it's a cynical world we're living in. I for one, intend to keep a good distance from dotster.
